how about 4th and 1, with a chance to end the game with the best qb in football, the best pass contested catching wr right now and ekeler who is having an amazing game.

67 seconds is plenty of time with a kicker who kicks 60+ yards.

We'll he's wrong in as much as we won the game! He's writing his article as if we lost the game. Would be nice to say our D is so Good it doesn't matter where they would of got the ball because we would have stuffed them coupled with Herbert will pick up the yards needed to end the game with a dominating play so go for it!. Which is If I'm reading it correctly Brandon Staley's angle. The players have now all processed everything and have determined the move was based on the HC believing in his players.

To me at this point none of this matters because even tho its sort of a cheap win being a long term Charges fan, there is such a rush of euphoria in winning a game where the other team misses a FG, or self destructs, as opposed to how some of these games went down back in the day.

Maybe winning a few lucky games is exactly what this franchise needs to finally get to where they want to go?

Staley is making no bones about how he is going to keep using analytics and going for it as long as he is here so this will not be the last time this discussion comes up.

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the NFL Analytics, the NFL Analytics

We went for it and didn't get it so the law of averages should even out and we make the next one.

Coach Staley is also 7-4 in one score games since he arrived.
Perhaps those wins were because of analytic driven decisions that were made, same with losses.

I’m not even gonna look up Loser Lynn’s record in one score games. If you guys want to go back to a coach using ‘football logic’ to make decisions, maybe we go back to Lynn and McCoy.

Yeah, but didn't someone share that on 4th & 1.7 yards, the analytics were actually against him?

Analytics are like a 1 or 0. They do not take into consideration MANY things that matter. Who is your opponent? are you a good short yardage team? Is Mahomes or Allen on the other side? Or is it QB2/3? How is their kicker?

Bottom line; STUPID call by Staley. You cannot rely on analytics, because they are not tailored to the individual situation at hand. To me, that makes Staley an even bigger fool.

Fans clamouring back to coaches like Lynn and McCoy who play to ‘not lose’.
Can there not be an in between?

An progressive, agressive coach who still uses common sense and has a grasp of game management?

wow I love Herbert and think he is top 5 but he is not yet the best QB in football. Lets keep it real here.

The main thing King is saying is 100% true. Staley and the Chargers got lucky. They got LUCKY.

It is possibe to take off the homer glasses and admit that.

Sure, and the Chiefs got lucky yesterday too. Sometimes teams make their own luck.

Every game, every play involves 22 players and 7 officials. The idea that everyone gets everything right every play is ridiculous.
Every play involves luck. Coaches play the odds as they see them.
Staley got a W. Most of us believe in W's.
