Agree completely. There's no way JH puts himself above the team. I don't want him to leave, but I'd also hate for such a good guy and talented player to waste his career a la Philip Rivers. Rivers in his prime was sooo good - I felt bad he was saddled with this organization.

Archie was right all along (DAMN it hurts to say that)!!!

Let’s remember the Chargers got spanked in week 3 by the Jacksonville Jags 38-10 to a team that was scared with 1 win in ‘20 and 3 games ‘21. I’m sure he is aware of River’s challenges with coaches and GM moves. If Chargers start slow as usual next season, I would not lock him in long term. Especially if Chargers don’t make PO and fire HC.

It's clear Herbert was a Chargers fan as a young kid. I sometimes wonder if he was when he was at the University of Oregon. I doubt he gives the Chargers a discount. That's wishful thinking to an unrealistic level.

another year with Vato, maybe JCJ
Taylor 2nd year in the system.
          Derwin leading the secondary.

A more consistent offense to close out leads with multiple first downs.

Staley can compete with the Pedersons and Reids.
          we're close.
Staley failed everyone. He should have trusted Ja'Sir in man coverage, and not blow up what was working because Davis went down. Hell, if not Ja'Sir, could have put Derwin there and try Ja as a hybrid linebacker/safety.

It would be wishful thinking if I was hoping he would, me, I always want the player to get the biggest deal possible, anyone that has read my posts in the past knows that about me…personally, I wouldn’t do it if I was him, especially not for the fucking spanos family…I was only pointing out that winning is important to him and that his desire to keep a solid supporting cast might motivated him to do that knowing the cheap ass owner he works for…I was only pointing that out to emphasize how much I think the kid values winning…but no, I hope he takes the spanii to the cleaners, just something tells me he won’t…his personality doesn’t scream “my ego demands to be the highest paid!” We’ll see…

I’m off the Staley bandwagon now. I was all in on the hire, but I’ve cooled on him since he went for it inside of his own 20 yard line against the Raiders in last season’s final game. That was one of the craziest / most reckless decisions I’ve remember seeing from an NFL coach.

Few coaches are perfect, but why move on from an offensive coordinator and a passing coordinator who had much to do with Herbert’s success his rookie year?? Staley’s decision making skills to me are questionable at best.

How can it be alright that this young franchise QB will have his third offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator in just four years? This is exactly what I feared the most..

Given his personality there's no way I see that he demands absolute top dollar for his new contract (re-setting the QB market), no way that he puts himself above the team and creates a distraction. His lifestyle is not one of excess - the money will be less important (to him) than it would be to the bulk of NFL players. He'll get paid a huge amount - no question, and that will be good enough for him. In fact, as Fouts2herbert notes, I think it's highly likely that he accepts a lesser amount to enable other players to be paid. It's just the way he is.
                So basically nothing.

You bring nothing of proof to back up your assertion of he is that type of player. A opinion is not proof. It's called wishful thinking.

This entire board is for people to express their opinions (and vent their frustrations). You'll find very little 'proof' in any of these discussions. Based on previous written articles and interviews over the past couple of years my read of his personality leads me to believe that he will (within reason) give the team some kind of home town discount. You obviously think differently - I'm OK with that.
I'm of two minds with JH; 1) I'd like to see him not be wasted (like Rivers) and go to a team where he'll get a shot at a ring, but, 2) He's my teams best shot at getting a ring!

He's the reason the Chargers sucked me back in (again) and I'd love to see his talents maximized, just don't think this current version of ownership and coaching is up to it.

                    Fair enough.

Only reason I mentioned that way is due to my original question was asking for a citation that Herbert was that type of player.

And I completely agree with you on this board, it's a wonderful collection of some of the most intelligent Chargers fans. I value it as a fan and appreciate it even more as Fleet personally knows my family for many years, he knows my Uncle and Dad as kids.

And you're 100% correct on Herbert pulling people back in. My Dad and a few different Uncles as well as friends were pulled back by Herbert. He's got that "it" factor as they say.

Cheers bud. We are all here for the same end goal.

LA Times Readers Poll: Should Brandon Staley remain coach of the Chargers?
                      yes: 34.9%
                      no: 65.1%

                      no undecideds.

among the reason cited, defensive meltdowns, distracted as a defensive play caller and fails to adjust, decision to play MW in Denver, drastic 3rd and inches call that changed JaX momentum

34% saying - "YES" - I suspect are Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos fans

The 0.9% left = Science has no answer.
