And - when it was most needed his defense came up small - 27 points given up to Tenn??? That's probably going to be the high water mark for them this year. They'll be lucky to win 5 games . . . . . . . . . . .

Fuck him. He needs to take it like a man. Staley is a Head football Coach that is choking games away. What does he expect? He has an All-World QB and it looks like he doesn't want to exploit that gift. Fuck.

What should be very sobering to Staley is his defense is so bad, no team would ever consider hiring him as their DC. He'll be like McCoy, relegated to a position coach. Maybe he can go back to the Rams and coach linebackers or something.
I totally get this argument and we could certainly do worse...but I'm telling you, Cowboys fans have been prophetic about this guy's lack of feel for the game in late, crucial situations.

Would he give up play calling duties as HC? Would Telesco be let go as well? We are so fucked with our cap that the only way out of this mess is to draft well. This is NOT going to be an easy rebuild.

I think it's fair to criticize some offensive playcalling but I don't get the criticisms on effort and discipline today. The entire team played really hard. They basically gave up 2 deep completions all day and that's on the players. Mike Davis played that route perfect the other guy just made a play. Asante got caught flat footed which is probably why he's not a starter. The defensive gameplan was excellent and the penalties were all effort plays. They slowed down Henry and Tuli honestly looked like Aaron Donald out there. Four out of the 5 sacks we got were a direct result of Tuli. I could see maybe blaming some questionable playcalling by Moore but when the defense gives a $250 million QB 4 chances to drive the ball and put the game away that's all you can ask and he could only come up with 3 points on those 4 final drives.

Very fair assessment. But I think Justin with a new OC deserves the benefit that there might be some variance in his play as he gets comfortable. Which is why I feel Staley messed up by not giving Herbert at least 1 half of pre season action with Moore.
Who has it better than us?

Don't see it happening. Moore has been the offensive coordinator of this team for two games, and some have him as by far the front runner to replace Staley. It's coming from nowhere.

                  I wouldn't like that. Moore isn't ready.

Staley would get another shot. Maybe with McVay.
Teams kept hiring Rob Ryan and his defenses sucked.

I don't see Moore as head coach material. Maybe only Ryan Ficken out of anyone currently on the staff.

Looks like Staley and Popper won't be exchanging Christmas cards this year.

                        From Popper's article tonight:

The Chargers have surrendered more completions of 30 or more yards than any team in the league since Staley was hired as head coach, according to TruMedia. They have given up 55 of those in 36 games.

“Our guys just have to respect the deep part of the field,” Staley said Sunday and has been saying since the day he arrived in Costa Mesa, Calif., in January 2021.

Staley tried to rotate his cornerbacks against the Titans, with J.C. Jackson and Davis switching series through the game.

“Playing corner is all about a rhythm,” Davis said. “If you’re going in and out, you lose your rhythm. But still, it doesn’t matter. The opponent doesn’t care.”

                        There’s more.

A third-and-4 later on that same drive after the deep pass to Moore? The Chargers gave up an easy completion to Hopkins, and Kenneth Murray Jr. got flagged for another roughing the passer. The Titans took the lead three plays later on a third-down touchdown reception from tight end Chig Okonkwo.

A week after completing less than 50 percent of his passes and throwing three interceptions, Tannehill was 20-of-24 for 246 yards and a touchdown despite five Chargers sacks.

“There were spots we could have taken advantage of and really put a nail in the coffin,” edge rusher Khalil Mack said. “It hurt us.”

                        There’s more.

Third-and-2 from the Titans’ 7-yard line with 21 seconds remaining in regulation? A touchdown all but seals the win? Tennessee edge rusher Harold Landry dominates right tackle Trey Pipkins III for a sack to hold the Chargers to a field goal.

Win the overtime toss and get the ball first? Pressure on first and second down forced Herbert throwaways. The Chargers had no answer for Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. On third down, the Chargers tried to go tempo but receiver Mike Williams lined up in the wrong spot. As Williams tried to run across the formation to get set, Herbert snapped the ball too early. It was poor awareness from the $50 million QB. Williams did not even run a route. Pressure again. Thrown away again.

“We had a tough time protecting the passer today,” Staley said.

                        “We all frustrated,” Williams said.

First down on the Titans’ opening offensive play of overtime? The Chargers got gashed for 14 yards on a crack toss play to the left edge, the same play they failed to defend over and over and over in 2022.

“We know we should be winning these games,” Mack said.

Therein lies the disconnect. With the talent they have, the Chargers should be winning these games.

Until they do that, the loss to Jacksonville will not go away.

                        That’s just the truth.

Brandon Staley bristled at the suggestion, but last season's playoff collapse against Jacksonville continues to follow the Chargers around.
