Staley has learned... You know what he learned? To stop being the coach he was in year 1 and 2. Staley doesn't take chances anymore and totally stopped gambling.

Staley has lost 4 games in a row going back to last year, and he wants us to believe the Chargers are going to get better.

You cannot change terminology and culture every other year and expect new results. The NFL is a tough business. I'm critical of Staley in that he didn't play Herbert in the pre season when it is a new choreography and he should get on stage and practice when it was available. Scared money makes no money. He scared but acting like it's smart to not play starters in pre season to keep fresh and prevent injury in a sport that requires physicality. I dont like it. If this was year 3 in same offense, then I could see sitting Herbert because he should be comfortable with the offense. But my opinion is Staley was too careful there because he liked what he saw in practice. He never gave himself or his players a chance get on stage. They know these are the televised games even pre season. Pre season is as close to regular season as you can get and he was okay skipping that part of the process. I don't like it. I put these 0-2 losing by 2pts and 3pts on lack of preseason for Herbert and other starters. Perhaps they execute a bit better and score a TD late and close the game because Herbert is more comfortable in this offense having actually did it a few more times.Originally posted by AFboltfan View Post
Daboll has nothing to do with us... You will see a change at QB for the Giants before anything else.
Commitment to losing? We already have been doing that...
I wouldn't be surprised if Justin and Moore or other players will be quoted as saying they are more comfortable than before at some point in the season. Probably after they put up 40 and 50 in back to back weeks. This offense has a lot of room to improve. Defensively, they needed to not make fouls on 3rd downs they won and they would have closed the door on Titans. Player smarter. Like last week Jackson with mental mistakes. Staley has got to get them playing without fouling on defense. Again, maybe more preseason action for starters could have been where they clean this up. But he chose to protect players and keep them fresh in pre season.
This 0-2 record is 100 Staley fault. He almost got away with being the smartest guy in the room. 1 more play in each game would have done it. These 2 loses will be meaningful late in the year for tie breakers with Dolphins and Titans.

It was a ticky tak call but the NFL is cracking down worse on roughing calls.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
Herbert had some bad moments
Running game - non existent
Oline had key plays where on 3rd downs, gave up sacks
Defense gave up the 70 yard play after taking an 11 zip lead. hey defense how about getting a stop and letting the offense get back on the field
Too many field goals today - not enough touch downs
SJD with a stupid penatly
I still don't think jake scott is that good
It truly is turning into a sissy league. The defenses are at an extreme disadvantage.....coupled with Staley sucking.

Too many coaches on this team who require training wheels and pampers to get by. Staley is not as OC and detail oriented as we thought. Game plans are wing it to the end and then wing it some more....Originally posted by Critty View Post

That sinking feeling when you know your team is toast already after week 2 AND a likely coaching replacement probably needs another 1-2 years to get his guys in place if there's going to be any success.

Stick had plenty of preseason reps. Would you prefer he be out there?Originally posted by Critty View Post

I just don't agree. Getting a couple series of preseason vanilla reps isn't going to make or break Herberts season.

Well they could not do even vanilla when it matter most. So we'll just have to disagree on the importance of more practice and getting more reps vs competition by playing pre season games. I would have played my starters until the half in 1 pre-season game and played them until the half, plus 1 series of 3rd quarter in another game. I think the reps help get more comfortable. Better vanilla at the very least. Like play without fouling on defense. Very vanilla stuff. Execute the pass block reps to give Herbert time. More vanilla football that works.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
