And obviously, we didn't cut Johnson directly because of keeping Pipkins, but keeping Pipkins meant we had to substract other players. At least, Johnson has shown he can contribute at a high level unlike Pipkins and is worthy of a roster spot on an NFL 53-man squad.

The question here for you and everyone is, would you be comfortable having Pipkins start anywhere on the offensive line if any of the current starters go out at any point in the season? If the answer is no, what exactly is the point in keeping him? We drafted McKitty to help block on run plays and act as support, you may as well have him do what Pipkins is doing now, but with the added advantage that he can act a passing threat as well.
If Pipkins got cut today he would have to go apply at Walmart to be their cashier tomorrow. That’s the only job he is qualified for but thanks to Tom Telesco he gets to be paid millions of dollars despite being terrible at his job (I’ll admit that I’m jealous and wish I had this luxury).
Tom Telesco’s Results in 9 years as Chargers GM:

    - 69-74 record
    - 0 division titles in 9 yrs as GM
    - Worst record among all active GMs with same tenure
    - 6th worst winning percentage among all active GMs overall
    - 2 playoff wins despite elite QB all 9 yrs
    - Team still has the same weaknesses (Oline and run defense) that it had when hired as GM in 2013
    - Consistently puts together horrible depth, expects starters to never miss games

The Chargers defense is mostly completely healthy and yet gave up 100+ rushing yards to Washington last week and now 200+ rushing yards to Dallas this week.

And we have teams like Ravens, Browns and Patriots all coming up and they love to run the ball…

No, we didn't lose because Johnson isn't in this game or on this team, per say, but it is likely he would have contributed a hell of a lot more in this game than Pipkins had or even Palmer for that matter which is the entire point.

I'm hoping they give Jaimes some reps, even at the Pipkins level to give him some mental gameday reps to see if they can utilize him or further integrate him in the frontline. I think trotting out Pipkins at this point in order to give him gameday reps to see if he can progress and develop to his draft pick is already too late.

So fire the whole coaching staff every 2 weeks?

It takes time to correct things.

When you sign up a new coaching staff you pretty much have to give them 2 years. That's just how it is. Continuity with good coaches is very undervalued or under somethinged. It takes time.

Didn’t say fire him. But Staley needs to light a fire now.

I never felt so robbed, jobbed and totally screwed by an officiating crew until today. EVERY time we had a positive play they threw a dammed flag. 2 TOUCHDOWNS off the board with crap flags thrown so late that the players were getting up off the ground. This seemed destined to be a Cowboys win no matter what and they made sure that happened.

This was a complete bag of fuck all today.............. Just shit to watch and having Homer Romo in the booth was the fudge icing on the turd cake.

Chargers invent ways to lose. No matter coach, franchise qb, superstar players. It doesn’t matter. They find new ways. Been doing it for decades. It’s the Charger “brand”

Staley is fine, in fact, he'll be lauded as a great coach, but there will be growing pains. Coach's mind works well, his defensive scheme, if executed well, delivers. The execution part is on the players, and that is where the growing pains will be; to determine whether the work ethic, mental aptitude, intellectual capacity and instincts are there in the current crop to execute efficiently. The players we have are very talented physically, but the question is can they see the big picture; the why and how and process that on the field. That's on the players as much as it is on Staley to coach them. It is likely though that it may take another draft to get the right components, and get rid of players who don't quite have the awareness or instincts to process what's happening on the field outside their given assignments/roles.

I'm thinking of Adrian Phillips as someone of the Staley mold, a player that isn't particularly gifted physically, but is a cerebral, instinctual player with high acumen.

The one consistent has always been the Spanos family.

There’s no sense of urgency on the first two downs, their basically wasting those downs.
