I trust Staley knows what he is doing, but I am inclined to agree with you, that keeping Daniel on the roster as a back up QB makes little sense. Hire him as a QB coach if they feel he can contribute as a mentor. But as a QB who can come in and replace Herbert if Herbert has to miss any time for whatever reason, there are much better choices. Stick has not had much opportunity to play with first-team players in game situations, and the few times he has, he looked pretty decent IMO. If somebody had to step in for Herbert, my choice would be Stick, not Daniel. But starting next season I think they have to find competent back up behind Herbert, someone like Bill Volek was to Phil Rivers.

I agree. I applaud Tilley for his great investment.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

This Tillery shit is funny. Everyone just wants to say that. So in effect, you have to read pretty much the same thing, in different threads. Must be the off-season.

Why is Roundtree a whipping boy? He was a rookie last season. Top Cat always quick to chastise players. I for one hope he improves and we neded another RB regardless. Kelly has a chance to show again as well but didnt see improvement in his 2nd season.

6th round draft pick rookies that make the team are not disappointments, unless they make a key bone headed game deciding action.

Topcat is throwing a very wide net and catching minnows.

He somehow missed the SS Storm.

Rountree...a whopping 2.4 yds per carry...longest run only 13 yds....even for a 6th rounder, pretty poor...not just me, but a lot of posters on this forum have been highly disappointed with both Rountree and Kelley...I would say this frequent criticism easily qualifies both of them as whipping boys...

As long as guys like Rountree and Kelley are giving it their all-- which I think they are-- i have no gripe with them.

I figure both are longshots to make the roster this year, but if they don't make it, it's more a reflection on the guy who drafted them than it is on the players.

As a 6th round draft pick, Larry Rountree was ALWAYS a 'flyer'. a guy who had some obvious deficits, but enough strengths that it might work out for him. That Tom Telesco would use a 4th round pick on Kelley, though, when the Bolts had such a horrible O-line that he had no realistic chance to succeed... That's on the drafter, not on the player.

I'll also say that the O-line currently looks a whole lot better to run behind NOW than when either of these guys joined the team.

                      So we'll see what happens.

Rountree has some pop to him, I'm more hopeful for him than Kelley. Needs a lot of improvement but what stands out most to me is vision. If Ray Charles played RB he would be Rountree.
