Show of hands: Who here doesn't gamble AT ALL?

    <hand waves in the air>

I'm *not* saying that it's impossible to win when you gamble, but I'm aware that the odds are, absolutely, AGAINST you (me).

My version of 'betting' is, I buy nice guitars that I'm speculating will appreciate in value, and will in time be worth more than I bought them for.

I rarely guess wrong, although I only make "hobby money" doing it.

We need more emoticons for that lol.

But i dont gamble at all....well i buy an occasional lottery ticket in CA. Does that count?
I do not bet on sports.

Guitars is a slow way to make a profit. I have 4 with no plans to sell but i got my SG cheap....only $510 so its worth maybe twice that? Its just a faded brown model. Not to mention shipping them is a PITA. I had 5, sold one. Old Peavey...actually loved it but had too many.

Can't tell me the impact on the online gambling community wasn't a consideration in letting Alabama in over Florida St. What a joke college football has become. It's why I don't bother watching much.

Fan Duel lobbied against gambling protections for minors and problem gamblers. Problem gambling is an addiction, like alcoholism or substance abuse. I've seen problem gambling wreck families in the same way drugs and booze can.

I don't gamble at all. When I quit a vice, I block that out of my mind completely.

I came here to post this...

My favorite band of all time is retiring.
end of an era for me, I'm lucky enough to have seen them many times so I'll catch my last whenever they come to SoCal.

A different perspective. We gamble every minute every hour every day if you think about it.

betting on the other hand, well that’s just a fool’s errand

I don't place bets with gambling outfits who make billions because they win most of the time. I never gamble in casinos and I never bet on sports. I used to play poker with my buddies but I don't even do that anymore.

I can't talk about this on my social media, I'm not even comfortable telling my friends because I'm involved with a woman who all my friends know.

Twenty years ago I dated the woman on the left. She was exceptionally pretty, and smart, educated, owned her own home and business. And when she was on, she was a lot of fun. But she was also a very troubled person. She came from a troubled family, her parents were nasty people who had disowned her over something trivial, her siblings were complete wrecks. She had no family, and she was desperate to find familial love. For a time I thought I would marry her, but I broke it off with her eventually. It's a long story, but she was a difficult person to be in a relationship with. She wasn't crazy or anything like that, just depressed a lot. She responded by moving across the country to Charlotte, NC.

I kept in touch with her for awhile after she moved. When she got to Charlotte she placed in ad in the newspaper (this was 2005) seeking an older couple to adopt her. She wasn't seeking financial support, she wanted parents. And she got what she wanted, a couple responded to her ad and eventually fulfilled that role for her. She started a website for adults who'd been disowned by their parents to seek adoptive parents. The media got wind of her story - the woman who sought adoption at age 43 - and she was Good Morning America and NPR.

This was all years and years ago. I have not had any contact with her for 17 or 18 years. This morning I received an email from her asking if I had seen her movie. I didn't know what she was talking about so I did some Google sleuthing and quickly discovered a movie about her had been released last year, titled "Adopting Audrey." She is standing next to the actress who portrayed her, Jena Malone, taken last year, in her 60s looking as gorgeous as she did 20 years ago. I haven't responded to her email. I don't know what to say. She resented me when I broke it off, and though we stayed in touch for a while after she moved, she was stand-offish.

Just tell her you're proud of her for sharing her story with others who might can relate and benefit from it. Always nice to know you're not alone facing some kind of adversity in life. Not much else you can say after that long not speaking. If you're not interested in rekindling that relationship, keep it short.

I will have to look this one up & watch it, though. You have me curious.

I talked to her last night on the phone. She's coming to Nor Cal next month and wants to get together in Napa or San Francisco. It's complicated.
