I'll have stronger opinions about Staley, his staff and their methods after this season.

can you afford to keep Gaziano over Tillery if both provide near equal production?
if it makes no sense financially to cut tillery then keep him over gaziano, gaziano has been better in the preseason, he’s played with more urgency and desire but he’s not going anywhere if they want him on the PS they can bring him back that way…but tillery has to be a rotational guy on passing downs only, he’s god awful against the run, horrible draft pick…

It looks to be a trend and i think that is the concern. I know its preseason. Im not looking to can Staley right now. But if we miss the playoffs again? With this roster? Get ready for me to not be real happy about that. Ill say that right now just to prepare those of you who simply wont tolerate any criticism. Depth is critical to making it through a season. How many of those guys last night will make the roster? 15-20?

Maybe we should start putting our non starters on a separate field and let them crush each other. Run them harder if you have to. Maybe our approach to keeping the starters healthy should not apply for those trying to earn a spot.

Just feels like such a huge gap between our bottom 25 and top 25 or so. Again it may be they are just not getting enough play in camp. They look tired and not very good.

Maybe its time to rethink the way we do camp for the non starters. Most teams are out there letting their starters get really physical though. I think Staley really wanted to run a camp that was safe and will help us overcome our crazy injury curse. Understandable.

But with the guys fighting for spots...who cares. Let them eat. Let them get fit. Starting to wonder if its just the way we run camp. It might just be a balance issue.
I think your hitting the panic button a little early. We have a ton of 1st and 2nd year starters on this team. I'd rather we start out 1-1 in the beginning of the season and get progressively better rather than start out hot and crash and burn like last season. Getting as much tape as possible on the younger players is what needs to be done right now so they can determine who is ready and who may need another year on the practice squad. The battle of the 2nds and thirds is not going to entirely determine our season this year because there seems to be a few gems in our dirt.

The health of our staters will determine success this season, depth is the great unknown.

Wanting our 2's and 3's to play better and wondering why they are not close to the same level as other teams 2's and 3's is panicking? Just trying to figure out the puzzle man. Ill tell you why...depth is really fucking important during a season.

Maybe i need to start a podcast. Those guys are just fans. lol Been doing this shit for 30 years. Player development is a big deal to me. Especially as it pertains to the fundamentals. Weird that fans with podcats get treated like legit football analyst. lol Its just fans man. They are just fans. Way to much credit given to social influencers.

Id like to see better from those fighting for spots. Every team is like you say. Every team has a bunch of 1st and 2nd year players. Average age of this team is right in the middle at around 26 years old.

Where in my post am i talking about the starters and panicking? This is a development take and a simple opinion on how we might be able to create better football players that end up on the back of the roster. lol

I dunno, our O may have caught lightning in a bottle last season. And it’s not like at #5 we were unstoppable, we were very stoppable and in big games too. I’d like to think the changes to the D help the O, but I’ll wait till I see both happen to believe it. This isn’t so much about preseason, just in general.

Agree. Depth is critical and u never know at the beginning of the season where you’re gonna need it. So you better have a decent bench or it it’ll bite you. Same question for me: why do our backups look considerably worse than the Rams and Dallas? The Rams won the title so maybe that’s not a good comparison. Dallas has a good squad. I thought we did too

Sid Gilman didn’t. He took them to the desert and worked their tails off. Might have juiced em as well. Best Charger squad ever

the team fizzled because depth was really bad, the depth thing is still a work in progress but I hope it’ll be better than it was last year…

On one level I get you but on another level we are sitting a crap ton of starters and some of these 1st and 2nd year players are going to develop during the season. Yeah, I'm not crazy about slow starts but we have a lot of rookies out there right now. Because of this we may not start looking like a team until game 3.
