Rashawn Slater's option year will be 2025. Asante Samuel Jr's contract will due in 2025, also. I got to think both of those guys will be retained.
agree... that is why TT has to go..... he had been horrible at picks after first round for a decade or more...

We need to hire someone off of the 49ers staff who know how to draft.....eagles & patriots staff are pretty good too.....

While I agree we MUST upgrade at the GM spot, Sun Tzu in Art o fWar harps on "Only move if you have an advantage. Otherwise, stay put." I see that without the TONS of injuries during TT's tenure, we would have made ALOT more playoffs we barely missed. He get good UDFA's in there too.

      Worth investigating tho!

In fact, all this stuff has to happen on or before March 15, according to the league:

Something I learned from this--a team can only release two players with the post-June 1 designation that saves the team cap money.
Just do what the 49's did. Ignore the cap. Sign everyone you want, win the SB then deal with the penalties later. In fact DeBartelo was forced to sell the team for this, maybe they will force the Spanos to sell the team? Win, win! SB plus no more Spanos.

DeBartolo was kicked out of the league and forced to sell when he was caught and convicted of paying a bribe to the then LA governor to get a gambling (casino) license.

That was what they said in public and was part of it, the other part was he refused to abide by the salary cap. He thought the 49'rs were above it and should not play by the rules all the other peasant teams had to follow.

The NFL worked its ass off to hide the 49'r cap scandal.

They didn’t kick him out because of any cap bullshit. Thats a fine and draft pick type of wrist slap violation.

They kicked him out because he was a convicted felon tied to corrupt gambling. NFL was always freaked out about gambling just in general and a gambling related conviction of a powerful owner was a bridge way too far for them at that time (if not forever).

Back then I read that he was paying players "under the table", giving them homes, etc. That's a sure way to build a solid team with plenty of depth.

I'd be shocked to find that TT and McGuire don't have a plan in place. This is what they do for a living. Ed since 1987.
                  No disrespect intended.

I understand. What I mean is that a lot of stuff is going to be happening pretty quickly now.

Gotcha! You pointed out something interesting to track. Thanks.
I'll be watching. It will be critical to the coming season.

Not quite. He was smart enough to get around the cap rules legally. Bonuses were not treated the same way they are now. He did give lavish parties where
he gave cash to his players. But that was not a bone of contention with the NFL, as it was rumored but never proven. He was thrown out for illegal gambling.
Nothing to do with salary cap violations. The team was not sold. It remains in the family. Eddie was kicked out and ownership passed to his sister. The
architech for the innovative way to get around the cap rules was not Eddie but Carmen Policy, his right hand man.

He might not have been busted for it, but he did buy that SB.
