Everett is wide open looking for the ball in the vacated blitz zone. Herbert needs to hit this throw to Everett. Its what he gets paid the big bucks for. See the blitz and throw right in behind it. Basic principles
I saw that too but the play design was a screen or short passes to the RB on that side. Looked like a screen and Ek got bottled up.
Need time to look the other way and he didn't have it.

Ekeler wasn’t in the game that was Kelley. Herbert needs to buy time. He’s not Rivers. Feel the rush, anticipate the blitz. Move. On 3rd and 1 from their own 10 late in the game after JCJ ran the INT out the blitzer came unblocked straight for Herbert and he did nothing to evade. Statue.

You said it - unblocked! Granted Herbert probably should hae thrown it away. But nothing about JK Scott and his perfectly mediocre punt - we all knew he would basically shank it there

Needed Matt Araiza in that situation

Let's be real - even if we had the Punt God crush a 70 yard punt there, on the next play Hill was behind the D and would have scored from anywhere on the field.

So no Ekeler for how long? Moore will have to change things a bit, maybe for the best as relying on our stellar ground game did not net us a W. Not necessarily complaining about our night-and-day rushing attack compared to last year, but our path to the playoffs goes through Herbie, gotta get him going just much as we gotta get the ground game going. Not rocket science, other teams do it, if we get another deep shell D, then exploit the intermediate routes. We have the players (even sans Ekeler), Moore just needs to dial up the right plays. Miami was interesting, but that last drive can’t happen again, hopefully Moore puts us in position to not need it.

Also I still - still - believe Staley’s D will look a helluva lot better if we score early a lot. Hell, any team’s D will look better if the opposing O is forced to go one dimensional, again not brain surgery just can’t be concerned about the play clock so much as the scoreboard, especially early. Build those rushing stats in the second half when we’re ahead lol.

Any QB can run the play and throw where its designed. Herb is paid top dollar to be more than that. He is supposed to recognize the blitz and adjust accordingly. Sorry Herb does not get a pass from me on this play and its the biggest play of the game.

Chargers offense choked when the game was there to be won.

Looks like it's going thru the defense.

We had 234 rushing, 228 passing, no turnovers, 30 first downs and still lost.

Shit defense, no playoffs. Mediocre defense, playoffs.

They need to trade Murray ASAP and play Henley , or since Henley is injured, hec even Niemann i think would be better than Murray.

                  He isn't worth a shit.

Herbert can't block for himself. New offenses almost always have trouble picking up the blitz because it's complicated and not everybody is sure of their assignments. But they will learn.

True and I agree the protection crapped out there.

                          WEEK 1

ALL 22 Film of an inside zone run.

Personnel is 13. Which means we can run this play with 3 WRs.

                          Widget Block - Gerald Everett

Playside Pipkens singled up on OLB
Playside double team is Everett + Salyer

Backside double team is Linsley + Johnson
Backside Slater is singled up on EDGE

Multiple gaps over a wider surface. Ekeler bends around Salyer and Ekeler goes for a 12-yard gain.

Pre-snap sequencing - On tape, Gerald Everett has finished his swoop motion and is set for a full second, otherwise it is illegal motion, like last Sunday on Keenan.
