which current backup can handle the feature back role if Gordon is lost for multiple games? Ekeler proved he can't- and ended up missing multiple games from concussion and knee after the last time they tried that. JJ has some potential but hardly proven to carry a full load for multiple games. Detrez is just a guy. Adding a vet FA makes the committee. The main benefit to another Gordon contract is you know exactly what you have with him and don't have to groom him. Over paying is never a good idea, but going rate for a productive back isn't horrible in the big scheme.

And he can run well between the tackles, something Gordon has issues with, unless there's a rare gaping hole...but, yes, I'd prefer to let Gordon go and sign a solid back in the mid or late rounds...invest in the O-line, and they'll make an average back look good, and a good back look great...
