Why do fans who don't fawn over Darrisaw have to be stubborn and contrary? Couldn't I say you are being stubborn in accepting Darrisaw's flaws, just so you can say we got a first round tackle?

We need to get away from insults and arrogant supposition, of which I myself have been guilty. Just say what you like about the prospect, leave our opinions and motives out of it...I promise to do the same.

ought to be enlightening regarding Staley's vision.

How not early? LAR DC Staley inherited serious DB, DL talent.

As LAC HC I expect he'll follow a plan based on a different roster with different player personnel, different coaches & different talent available.
My guess CB on day 1 - 2.. S day 2 or 3.

Players play positions, oh inscrutable one. Fielding an offense of 11 RBs would certainly be entertaining though. Hey, they were all the BPA!

I’ve got Darrisaw as OT3. It’s hardly fawning.

But it’s true, without those warts he’s a top-10 player, bar none. Fortunately, those warts are removable, unlike the warts of having short arms and light anchor.

But even with his warts Darrisaw’s a top 20 talent.

Between picks #14–#21 there’s 5 teams that’d be ecstatic to draft him. We’re fortunate to be in such a good position.

Not a guarantee that he will be there when we pick. Almost every year someone gets picked higher than mocks or message boards predicted. There are 32 different GMs with 32 different coaching staffs. Some things we see as deal breakers with a certain prospect coaches will think they can work with it. Doesn’t mean our opinions are wrong. Some of the guys mocked high may have character concerns that teams know about that aren’t out in the media same with the medical side..
13 is a good spot. Every draft there are usually only 12-20 players that are genuine 1st round talents the rest are need picks or projections. iIf we stick to our script we should get a damn good player that can help us.

I completely agree. One of the strengths of Staley is that his DBs generally need to be smarter, rather than faster. When you get both, you get an absolute stud like Ramsey. You can get smarter later in the draft than you can get faster when it comes to DBs.

This is like the Shannahan QB thing, except operating properly. Staley can take middling CBs and make them good by his system so he doesn't need to use premium draft capital on the position. For some reason Shannahan is apparently set on taking average talent with a lot of draft capital attached to prove his system works. I'm confident Staley could turn PS2 or to a lesser extent Horn into stars, but he can take a second or third rounder and make them a really good starter. That's good enough. It frees up those premium picks for other positions he's less able to develop and needs more talent to maximize.
