    This is so vague.
In a way it’s supposed to be vague. Don’t expect to tag a traditional label on Staley’s D (ie. 4-3, 3-4, 4-6 etc.).

It’s all about shifting and disguising and flex positions.

    Think of it this way.
    vague=ambiguous=hidden=disguised=deceptive =opponent’s QB panicking= turnovers=winning
Our quarterback is a golden god.

It means that it’s a flexible scheme. And don’t get hung up on what a 3-4 defense is supposed to be.

And not sure what OBJ wanting to play LT has to do with it. He wants LT money and be like daddy.
I’d ask you if it’s so seamless to move guys around and LT is the most important spot, why not move Bulaga over?

I think this is why Staley made a big point out of just labeling Bosa (and others) as EDGE defenders in his last presser. If he labels him strictly DE or OLB people then have these assumptions about what the defense is going to look like based on 3-4 vs 4-3. The defense will be multiple and using that antiquated terminology only serves to confuse as guys flex between alignments and assignments play to play. It also allows you to change the defense to the personnel instead of going out and needing cookie cutter guys at every position to make the defense work a certain way. It’s funny that in the presser they talk NBA in relation to pass catchers and the offense because I think the modern ‘position-less’ NBA is a closer match to Staley’s desires on defense, ie why he says he just wants ‘DBs’ not this many S and this many CB.

All i can say is Staley said you need OTs.....RT and LT dont have the same meaning it used to. For years our staffs...every staff have liked to have OL that are versatile being able to play multiple spots. You hear that often from other teams.

Tevi has played RT and LT as has Pip. They just arent very good players. None of our recent OL have been very good players.

Moving a OG to LG vs RG shouldnt be a big deal and yes its the same as a WR going to the left or right side.

Bulaga i dont know, ...its not to say he cant play there, id say they just like him where he is.

                B4YP, agreed !
Teams are turning away from from old school, tried and true DCs,
in order to deal with modern offenses.
Everyone is mimicking Staley, or will be, and playing catch up to the trends of prolific offenses in recent years.
We do not play modern football.

                  We might just do that,
if our OLT does not fall into our lap
                  with great value.

Absolutely, we are already living in a world where Nickel (however teams want to call it) is truly the base defense. That alone disrupts the idea of 3-4 vs 4-3 since you have 5 on the backend.

Exactly. It also devalues LB in favor of all-purpose DBs, which is why a draft that includes 3 DBs and no LBs is entirely possible.

In the same way, it necessitates DBs that can tackle.
I like CHJr., but at this point in his career, sure tackling isn’t his strong suit.

Melifonwu, Robinson, Molden, Holland, Grant...these are guys that can cover and tackle. Some think Asante too (though I have my doubts about his size) but these are the kinda guys on our radar.
Our quarterback is a golden god.

That is impeccable math, and you are correct. DB5 seems to be becoming the new base.
