Brugler answers a question about Araiza:

Where might San Diego State P Matt Araiza get picked?

What's the realistic range of round(s) where Matt Araiza gets drafted? — Brian E.

Is Matt Araiza a generational punter? Which round for him? Thanks — Doug N.

Probably the 4th-6th round. He’s the best punting prospect since Michael Dickson was a fifth-rounder out of Texas four years ago. Seattle doesn’t regret that pick, and Araiza could go even higher in the right situation. This is a pretty decent punting group. I know teams have early day 3 grades on Georgia’s Jake Camarda too.

thanks for posting that. if the Chargers get a comp pick for Jenkins - that might be a good pick to use on Araiza or allow the earlier 4th round pick to use on Araiza

But Camada being a good prospect is also good. Chargers need a new P.

For teams like us with traditionally poor ST, Araiza is an even more valuable prospect
my guess is that he doesn't escape the 3rd round
Wouldn't die of shock if he goes late 2nd

He projects to affect EVERY GAME through field position.

Agreed, on every point made. Second, Trading back a position in the 1st Round would allow for that luxury pick on a P the second day of the draft, feasible.

That said, Trusting Telesco to successfully pull-off a trade-down is surely an outlier in scenarios among the Charger faithful.

Can't be any worse than his history of trading up. And don't want to trade back and miss out on Polamalu - but it would give you the flexibility of an extra pick.

Why bother drafting for a position which will never be used?

Half used.... instead of punting four times a game maybe twice?

                  OK - probably more realistic!

In all seriousness, if BS continues with his plan to go for it on a continual basis a punter may NOT be valuable enough to waste a pick on. We should be able to upgrade that position with an undrafted guy or someone released from another team. Our punter doesn't have to be the best of the best, just better than what we have currently.

I agree with this. I think it will be difficult to find a decent RT in FA at a reasonable price. The scarcity of tackles makes them expensive and they rarely hit FA. This is especially true of LTs, but is still true to a lesser degree with RTs. I think this draft has similar depth to last draft (or even better) at tackle so there should be someone capable of playing there at 17 or maybe even in the mid 20s if we trade back.

I'm not sure that RT will be a homerun pick like Slater was last year, but looking at the needs this team has, the FA market, and the draft prospects, I think RT will be the hardest to fill in FA or later rounds of the draft.

Could be that we didn't punt because Long was 32nd in net yds per punt.
A P that can kick 80 yds with good hang time might give Staley a different perspective re going for 4th & 4 in our own red zone.

Very true. A real NFL defense will also help a bit . . . .

                          Enough of this Araiza talk.

                          Have you never heard of
                          "outkicking the coverage ?"
