So that's the trade plus we only gave up a 4th.
We traded 1st rounders for Gordon which is a wash, and gave up a 4th and 5th.

You make it look worse than it is.

Part of our problem we draft in any given year for the scheme of the coaching staff of that year. Three years later we have a new staff new schemes and it's no surprise that some draft picks don't fit anymore and are replaced and then we start over again. Toms players are all over the NFL having success but we are washing them out with the constant turnover of staff. It's not like his draft picks are out of the NFL after we let them go.

We are constantly looking for that player that plays like 1.5 a player and we are willing to pay that player 2.5 times a good players salary. The problem is it takes 11 good players to make a unit on defense or offense and when a star player goes down we really feel it now and can do nothing more than ride it out. Stop over paying for aging talent....

Telesco needs to draft better. Its that simple. And the point above about changing coaches is a good one. At the same time, Telesco has never identified a style of play the chargers play and melds the coaching staff to the roster talent.

So a lof of that is sigining older players to fill in the roster.

He needs to test well on something:

4.6+ for a safety is slow.

                Or maybe not, Telesco likee.

We need to bring someone in after this season like Jim Harbaugh and really clean house. Get rid of the older players get a GM in here that can actually put together a team that could win in the playoffs. Once we do that we should be fine. But lets face it realistically we have one more season of this and it should be very obvious what the issues are, they seemed pretty clear after this season.

Trey Mckitty, Muray, Woods, Spiller, Teo, Melvin Gordon, Tillery, Attacohu, Forest Lamp, Feeney, ETC. ETC. ETC! We need a better GM and we need a better HC! 2 playoff wins in the last 10 years under TT is not good. There has never been any progressing or getting better everything has always stayed at the same level.

Don't know if anyone caught this, or mentioned it, but I'm watching the combine, recorded/Tivo....just noticed our new DC is running DB drills...cool. He ain't just running the drill, he is coaching them while he is doing it.

Official safety 40 times posted … For the record, the official 4o times for the safeties from this afternoon have now been released and generally the same as the unofficial numbers with the exception of several players whose time was ultimately altered by a 0.01. And unlike the corner grouping early today where it sometimes felt that while they were holding a combine work out, that a track meet broke out, there wasn’t a whole lot to get excited about the safety clockings, In the end, several safeties did get under 4.5-flat, including Pitt’s Brandon Hill (4.43), Cal’s Daniel Scott (4.45), Jordan Howden (4.49) of Minnesota and the Illinois duo of Jartavius Martin (4.46) and Sydney Brown (4.47). However, none of those guys is generally considered to be in the top tier of safeties. Among the more highly rated safeties, Antonio Johnson of Texas A&M ran okay with a 4.52 clocking, but the others including Jammie Robinson of Florida State (4.59), Georgia’s Chris Smith ($.62) and Brandon Joseph of Notre Dame (4.62) and Penn State’s Ji’Ayir Brown (4.65) were somewhat slower.

Fast times as CBs put on a track meet … Here are the official results of the first run by the CBs today. In fact, there was very little difference in the official and unofficial times today. And there there were indeed some very fast times as more than a half dozen guys ran under 4.4 including a remarkable 4.26 by DJ Turner of Michigan. Others in that range included Jakorian Bennett (4.30) of Maryland, Mississippi State’s Emmanuel Forbes (4.35), Georgia’s Kelee Ringo (4.36) and Maryland’s Devonte Banks (4.35), South Carolina’s Darius Rush (4.36) and Christian Gonzalez (4.38) of Oregon. Meanwhile, among the other top-rated CBs, Joey Porter had a 4.46 and Cam Smith of South Carolina had a 4.43, both solid times.

Pigskin posts combine thoughts … With the second day of on-field testing at the scouting combine moments away from kicking off, GBN Associate Editor Pigskin Paul Guillemette has some thoughts on what happened at yesterday’s work out for the defensive linemen and LBs.

                          March 3, 2023 - 3:08 pm

CBs Porter, Gonzalez check some early boxes … With the first group of defensive backs heading to the field for their physical testing and positional drills, a couple of notes on the CB weigh-in. On the one hand, both Joey Porter of Penn State and Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez certainly passed the eyeball test. Porter measured in at 6-2.5 and 193 pounds with really long arms for a CB at 34-inches. Gonzalez isn’t quite as long at 6-1.5, 197 with 32-inch arms (which is good enough) but he ripped off an explosive 41.5-inch vertical. The other corner who really aced the weigh-in was Kansas State’s Julius Brents who measured in at 6-2, 198 with 34-inch arms; and for good measure he also rocked a 41.5-inch vertical. At the same time, Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon didn’t wow anyone at the weigh-in as he came in at -11.5, 181 with 31-inch. And as noted earlier Weatherspoon won’t be able to show his strength – his speed and athleticism – as he will be sidelined by a hamstring this afternoon. Cam Smith of South Carolina also came in with 31.5-inch arms. Meanwhile, several other prominent corner prospects have some ground to make up at the work out. Mississippi State’s Emaunel Forbes, for example, only weighed in at a slender 166 pounds, while Iowa’s Riley Moss (30″), Utah’s Clark Phillips (30″), and Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (29″) each has very short arms. Here are the numbers to date courtesy of The Steelers Depot.

                          March 3, 2023 - 9:58 am

CBs and safeties to run today … There will be another marathon day of on-field workouts at the scouting combine in Indianapolis later today with the defensive backs scheduled to do their on-field thing. The specialists, who are people too!, will also work out. Coverage begins at 3 PM ET on the NFL Network. Unfortunately, one player who won’t be working out is Illinois CB Devon Weatherspoon, one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position who reportedly has some issues with a hamstring.

                          March 3, 2023 - 9:54 am

Guess who didn’t come to dinner … The headlines coming out of yesterday’s on-field workouts by the defensive linemen and LBs were mostly about the great times turned in by Georgia ER Nolan Smith and Pittsburgh DT Calijah Nancey which in fact were among the best times ever produced at those respective positions. In many ways, though, the major news from yesterday’s workout was just how many top prospects didn’t participate, especially among the edge rushers. Indeed, the list of top prospects that didn’t run yesterday included Jalen Carter of Georgia, Clemson’s Myles Murphy, Tyree Wilson of Texas Tech, Iowa’s Lukas VanNess, Iowa State’s Will McDonald, Zach Harrison of Ohio State, Army’s Andre Carter, BJ Ojualri of LSU, Keio White of Georgia Tech, Drew Sanders of Arkansas, Tui Tuipulotu of USC, TCU’s Dylan Horton, LSU’s Ali Gaye, Felix Anudile-Uzomah, Mazi Smith of Michigan, Byron Young of Alabama, and Vilami Fehoko of San Jose State. Of course, a few of those players had legitimate injury concerns about participating, but there is no other way to look at it than more than half the first round prospects eligible to work out yesterday didn’t. Meanwhile, only a handful of players opted to participate in some of the drills like the shuttle drills. No wonder more coaches are skipping the event.

                          March 3, 2023 - 9:41 am

Strange ‘times’ at combine … Not sure if anybody commented on the topic, but there was something very different about the timing at yesterday’s first on-field work out at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. In the past, we used to caution people not to get too excited about the first reports of players’ times. They first reports were always about the players’ unofficial times which invariably would be anywhere from 0.05 to 0.10 seconds slower than the official times announced at the end of the event. Yesterday, though, the official times were all faster by that same margin of anywhere from 0.05 to 0.10 seconds.
