So, if you want to sign Dexter, where would you get a DT that can push the pocket and help Bosa and Ingram? Dexter is a solid run stuffer, but he needs a lot of work on technique, and he is not a very good pass rusher.
You can get run stuffers later in the draft, or in FA for a relatively low price. There is no need to spend a 1st round pick on a player who is going to be a situational run down guy at best for his career.
If you want to free Bosa and/or Ingram, get them some one-on-ones. If you want one-on-ones, get yourself a 1-tech that demands double teams. No DT in college ball demands double teams like Dexter. Lawrence had 6.5 sacks as a freshman (when he was seeing more one-on-ones). One-on-ones against Dexter ceased in his sophmore and junior years. Guess whose sack numbers went up? Clelin Ferrell's and Christian Wilkins'. At the same time, Clemson's rush numbers went down. 3.5 ypc (2016) 3.1 ypc (2017) 2.4 ypc (2018). Best rush defense in the nation in 2018. Make teams' offenses 1-dimensional. That'll benefit Bosa and Ingram, too.
If we don't resign Philon and your looking for pass rushing 3-techs... there are some good ones later. Renel Wren, Kingsley Keke, LJ Collier.
Plenty of times Bosa and Ingram had one on ones and didn't win.
Clemson had four very good DL and in college ball they were just better than most of the OL they faced. It is not going to get easier for Lawrence in the NFL. Just don't see him as a value in round 1 with who else could be there.

From what little i've seen, Dexter Lawrence doesn't strike me as a Tom Telesco top pick: TT seems to prefer explosive 3 techs there. I don't think Lawrence will pile up sacks in the NFL.
I'm still open to picking up Jeffrey Simmons and waiting for him to return to health. Admittedly, he's not the explosive type TT covets.
I like what TT has done so far this offseason, positioned us well for the draft. Tillery at 28? Wren later? We can go BPA and let the players we need come to us.
