I'm still blown away that a few people here are actually looking for reasons to try and defend Lynn. The game last week all by itself should have been enough to convince even the most die hard Lynn fans that he is utterly and completely in over his head as a HC.

The Chargers are vastly more talented team than the Patriots. It is not close. The odds should be at least a two score line in our favor, but everyone knows that Belichick is great and Lynn sucks, so the odds are virtually even.

We need to get on the gas with our passing attack and put pressure on Newton to keep up by throwing the ball. Our QB versus theirs is the single biggest advantage we have. If we stress that mismatch, that will maximize our chances of winning.
Yet they have 5 wins. Must be the vastly better coaching.

Belicheck gets 115% out of his players while Lynn gets 85% out of his players. LOL!

HC puts rookie QB in position to succeed by featuring pass attack behind a sub par o-line. Just put it all on rookie shoulders. Yep that worked out well.

Terrible coach says he want to protect his prize rookie franchise QB. Starts the Veteran. Forced into playing rookie. Stays committed to the run and balanced attack. Complimentary football. Rookie QB is running away with offensive player of year.
Fire that HC screams the arrogant and ignorant fan. He is holding him back by running too much.

          I can't even....

Patriots are 5th ranked rushing team. 3rd rank in rush TDs. 4th in interceptions. They have a very very good secondary. And overall a very solid defensive roster. Also a better o-line than Chargers. A better RB group as well. Its a well built team. QB play has been a big issue. But that QB does have 9 rush TDs.

Patriots had the #1 defense in all of football last year. Its 12th this year because offense is struggling to produce like it used to with CAM at QB. The complimentary football is not there for them like it used to be.

The odds makers see an even matchup. So do I.
The team that executes better will win.

                Tyreek.

Raiders and Broncos WRs are talented group as well.
Do you like the personnel matchups we have right now vs them?

It’s a well coached team. Their defense is missing 3 of their best players who sat out for Covid. And Gilmore wasn’t around til recently. Rbs are nothing to write home about and wrs are weak as is QB. OL plays well but always has because they had the best OL coach in the game until recently. Defense is BB’s specialty and he knows how to get players he thinks fit and coaches em up. They’ve actually never been a super talented team but have had key pieces and a squad that doesn’t beat itself and plays solid football.

                    Look at all of it!
The Patriots rank 7th in scoring defense vs the pass and rank 4th in interceptions.
Also Patriots rank 21st in total rush yards allowed and rank 15th in scoring defense vs the rush.
If you look at their starting line up. The secondary is their strength. Per attempt is one stat. And it is correct. But the totality of all the stats clearly show the Patriots defend the pass much better than the run.
The Patriots have scored INTs, but do you know who they did not get them against? Good QBs (QB rating over 100) for the most part. Wilson (5 TDs, 1 INT), Carr (2 TDs, 0 INT), Mahomes (2 TDs, 0 INT), Allen (0 TDs, 1 INT), and Watson (2 TDs, 0 INT). The only top 10 rated QB that did not have a good game against the Patriots in terms of TD/INT ratio was Allen. The 5 QBs combined for an 11 to 2 TD to INT ratio.

The Patriots did get other INTs as follows: Fitzpatrick (3), Lock (2), Garoppolo (2), Flacco (1), Jackson (1), and Murray (1). These are all QBs rated 14th and lower in passer rating. Herbert is a much better passer than all of them. Our receivers as a group are also better than the receivers of these other teams (Arizona is as good at WR, but not at TE or RB).

INTs are the one thing the Patriots have done well on pass defense, but they also yield 69% completions against (29th), 8.3 YPA (32nd), and have recorded 15 sacks (28th). Except for Josh Allen, the good QBs they have played against have all had a QB rating for the game of 113 or greater.

The pattern is clear. Better QBs have had their way with New England's pass defense.

As for scoring defense versus the run and pass, I think the stat is largely irrelevant. That a team scored against the Patriots one way and not another does not prove that that same team could not have scored the other way on the same possession. They just happened to choose one way versus another when they scored. There is a certain arbitrariness to that stat.

What is clear is that if the Patriots do not get an INT, they struggle to prevent completions. Our passing attack should be able to move the ball against them and score.

By contrast, our rushing attack sucks. The Patriots are an average defense against the run. So that is not as good as a great passing attack going against a mostly bad pass defense.

They have one of the best head coaches and we have the bumbling buffoon, so yes, I would say that is true.

                        That makes no sense.

Telesco acquires the talent. The talent is well above average.

The coaching is the worst in the entire NFL, which is why the team is not succeeding with the talent that they have.

                          Stephon Gilmore PFF Grade: 58.0
                          Casey Hayward PFF Grade: 58.6

                          J.C. Jackson PFF Grade: 69.7
                          Michael Davis PFF Grade: 69.8

                          Devin McCourty PFF Grade: 63.8
                          Nasir Adderley PFF Grade: 53.4

                          Kyle Dugger PFF Grade: 60.5
                          Rayshawn Jenkins PFF Grade: 65.1

I do not see one secondary as being vastly superior to the other based upon PFF grading. In fact, it looks like our secondary has a small edge at 3 of 4 starting positions, while NE has a larger edge at the 4th starting position. In short, they appear to be roughly the same in terms of overall quality.

Also, I would take Ekeler over any of their RBs.

                          Newton is terrible.

We should focus on stopping the run and making Newton beat us with his arm.
