Having a guy who can lock down his man one-on-one helps. I don't think we had that with Bradley. Yes, we had the Casey Haywards and such, but nothing like a JC Jackson. And back then we didn't have the DB group like we do now.

I'd like to see if the defense the team has now can hold an opponent to 0 points. That would be satisfying to see.

Woods tackling didn't look good in ps. His college tackle #'s were respectable. I guess he got too excited.

Give Woods time. Needs coaching. That said his physical traits are up there so he has a high ceiling.

if you consider JC Jackson was undrafted iirc and picked up his craft from even a lesser expectation I think Woods can develop….not everyone is a Herbert or Slater year 1 to blow your expectations…sometimes we have to give them a little time right?

Early Hayward was a lock down DB when he first arrived, he was excellent. By the time he left, he couldn’t cover WR1 anymore. He couldn’t even cover WR2 in man.

An interesting video on the best young free agents who are available after roster cutdowns (many are on practice squads) and veteran free agents who may still be capable players who are waiting for a contract offer.

Tartt is the guy who dropped a gift INT that would of sent SF to the SB.

                      One of NFL's best OLs.
Excellent speed in secondary, decent at WR, RB
Very good K, P, LS, KR
New D, lots of stars, quality
Year 1, no playoffs. Year 2, TBD.

It doesn't matter why he's here. We just got lucky I guess.
To Telesco's credit - he put together the best team on paper for the Chargers in 15 years

I am looking forward to the season

                      As usual - three concerns
                      1) Special Teams
                      2) O Line - I think they will be solid
                      3) 3rd down defense - can the team get off the field

As for today, I am bullish - I think 12 to 13 wins is not out of the realm

I've watched the Chargers since '78 and IMO this is our best staff & roster overall. That said, we have to put it on the field.

ST - opponent returns could be an issue. We won't punt often and when we do, the hang time & gunner speed make returns unlikely.
KO - should go out of the EZ. FG - Hopkins is high % inside 50. Pro Bowl LS Harris will have ST OL blocking set. We look good but one long return against us is like a turd in the punch bowl. We'll just have to see.

OL - we're one of the best even if Pipkins is low avg PFF.

3rd dn D. I'm more concerned with scoring D, but I get it. It can not avoid considerable improvement if the new D does what is intended. Pass rush, stop the run, get takeaways, PDs and force punts.

I respect your concerns. We have seemed close before. I believe this is different. Reality check in 7 days.

Tartt has hands of stone but he also hits like stone. Enforcer Chargers could use in certain situations (bludgeoned middle of field or special teams). Kick the tires see if they kick back.
