Y'all understand its only preseason and few to none of the starters will see any action? It's about roster construction back end of the line for those needing to prove worth keeping. See some good 2nd team head-to-head but mostly 3rd team and fringe players. Practice was where it was at far as starters taking reps. I guess Pipkins and Storm will play since neither is really starter material.

Just to be clear, I know nothing is guaranteed and Justin could still get hurt from playing with a better RT situation, but that’s not the point. The point is you do everything you can to protect an asset like Herbert, period. Then you go from there with no regrets. Everyone knows RT is a problem and this year when the team did so much to upgrade the defense they also decided to re-roll the dice with a hot steaming pile of shit at RT. Why, is the team expecting different results from the same players from last year? Something about insanity….? Perhaps it’s just so some one in the front office or some meddling owner’s son can save face about drafting pip in the 3rd round…

Anyone wonder how Justin feels about it, especially being on his rookie contract and after watching the raider film from week 18 over and over again…? Maybe Justin would get called a coward by some charger fans too if he wasn’t happy about the situation…

IDK, but with all the analytics around today there’s probably and algorithm out there that can tells us how much more likely Justin Herbert is to go down with a season ending injury based on the number of pressures opposing defensive linemen are getting off that right side. Like maybe a significant percentage increase from playing a 60 PFF graded RT versus having one that grades out in the 72-75 range. Nobody is going to be thinking positive about the season if Justin gets joe burrowed this year, nobody…

call it whatever you want, gnashing or otherwise,…I think it was fuggin irresponsible to keep the RT position status quo from 2021 and it’s not like we had to go outside the roster to make a change either. And before anyone says the fieler would get mad for making 7.5mil to play right tackle, the rams have a better RT than fieler and one that just won a superbowl who makes less per season than fieler does as a guard…
No coach, no GM, no team is ever going to say “ok, look, our (position x) player really sucks. We’ll do all we can to cover and mask it but he’s shit”. The fact we don’t hear anything about the potential starter is the most non-news discovery possible. For all the astute armchair genius GMs out there, just assume that the actual professionals know what players they have. Every team has a flaw. Justin didnt get burrowed last year with a shit RG next to the same RT. RT cannot be worse, they will be the same or better than last year. Ergo - for this micro focused hyperventilation on the weakest spot of the team, it is obviously better in 2022.

But macro focus fellas - we lost games and a playoff spot because of DEFENSE and ST. Looking big picture there are a huge list of reasons to be extremely confident and hopeful. MAJOR upgrades at RG1, DT1, DT2, Edge2, CB1, CB3, LB1, RB2, P1, KR/PR1/WR3-5?, LS1, TE1 … its an unusually long list of improvements on a team that was just a play or two out of the playoffs last year. Literally a couple plays. That is a huge systemic team upgrade. Those that don’t understand this don’t understand football and should stop demanding that their angry adamant opinions be blessed as gospel.

And yet there is one tiny cause of minor concern where the team is basically the same with some level of expected growth improvement. One has to obsessively block out all other information about the team in order to micro-focus on that and predict doom.

People see what they want to see.

Which of the doomsday guys will bet that the team will not be better this year? Step forward, i will take that action. I am certain they are not just better but much better. They are SB contending for the first time in 10+ years or so, and who knows how it will bounce. I’m sure not going into the season glumly expecting it to bounce badly - who lives like that?

How about you F2H - side bet via Venmo / PayPal? Ready to put money on your angry disgusted disappointed premonitions of doom? Lets go, Bolts!!!

I’ve been saying repeatedly that the expectations for this season are very positive and bright…

But let’s rewind to that moment after the chargers lost the raider game last season. Are you 100% sure it was just the defense and that the RT position played no part in that loss? You can mask weakness in the regular season but that was basically a playoff game and you can’t mask weakness in the playoffs. Even if we win a bunch of games in the regular season, and now that the defense is improved, how are you going to feel if the RT situation costs us a trip to the super bowl? yes, we improved our defense but every other team in the division has improved too and some teams in the conference like the bills and ravens are going to be really really good.

Think back to how you would have reacted If the organization had put out a statement right after the raider loss saying “hey, we’re just going to run it back with the same two guys playing RT for us in 2022” Are you saying you wouldn’t have been disappointed? Perhaps because a few months have gone buy you’ve become comfortable weary rose colored glasses but I haven’t and others here haven’t either. I don’t think that gives you cause to insult us because we care about keeping Herbert upright and healthy. ME, I was furious with the ass whuppin’ that Herbert took in that game! I can’t imagine how any charger fan would be okay with that or signing up for more of that in 2022? And even going back to 2021 off season a lot more could’ve been done in 2021 including cutting ties with Bulaga and finding a viable RT. when a handful of viable RTs hit the market I was shocked the chargers didn’t make a move on or claim leno, massie, reif, or moses. I just can’t get that fugger crosby going after Justin's legs time and time again out of my head. How did you?

I’d hope you’d not apologize but at least accept it’s not okay to call your fellow charger fans cowards. What you call a ‘tiny minor concern’ affects the health of the hopes and dreams of every charger fan, justin herbert, this team is doing nothing if he’s not around and it doesn’t matter how much they fixed in other areas…

Good news is that every practice report I saw said we were shutting down the cowboys run game.

No doubt Norton had a really bad day in that game. Crosby had multiple big plays, both sacks and hurries. However, remember the fourth-down heroics of Herbert? Where was Crosby while that was going on? - He was being successfully blocked by Norton. What I'm saying is Norton isn't all bad, he has good plays too.

This year's draft did not offer enough good OT prospects to get one at 17. That's why they went for a Guard and that's why we are stuck with the Norton/Pipkins duo. No need to expect the offense to be any worse than they were a year ago. Killer defense and much improved special teams should give the offense more opportunities. Look out NFL, it's our year!

Lots of concern about RT and that's understandable, but SO MANY positions have been upgraded. We can help the RT out with a TE or RB but it's really hard to help a CB without ruining the scheme.

I don't post much, but I have to say something here. YES an improved Def. will make the RT better. The difference in the first Raider game and the second, is we had a lead in the first game so Maxx had to play the run and the pass. In the 2nd game we were behind he knew we were throwing almost every play, allowing him to tee off on Norton. With a better Def we shouldn't be in position very often. So yes, the moves we made to improve the Def/ST will help the RT (whoever wins the job) be better.
