The difference in the first Raider game and the second, is we had a lead in the first game so Maxx had to play the run and the pass. In the 2nd game we were behind he knew we were throwing almost every play, allowing him to tee off on Norton. With a better Def we shouldn't be in position very often. So yes, the moves we made to improve the Def/ST will help the RT (whoever wins the job) be better.

But let’s rewind to that moment after the chargers lost the raider game last season. Are you 100% sure it was just the defense and that the RT position played no part in that loss? You can mask weakness in the regular season but that was basically a playoff game and you can’t mask weakness in the playoffs. Even if we win a bunch of games in the regular season, and now that the defense is improved, how are you going to feel if the RT situation costs us a trip to the super bowl? yes, we improved our defense but every other team in the division has improved too and some teams in the conference like the bills and ravens are going to be really really good.
Think back to how you would have reacted If the organization had put out a statement right after the raider loss saying “hey, we’re just going to run it back with the same two guys playing RT for us in 2022” Are you saying you wouldn’t have been disappointed? Perhaps because a few months have gone buy you’ve become comfortable weary rose colored glasses but I haven’t and others here haven’t either. I don’t think that gives you cause to insult us because we care about keeping Herbert upright and healthy. ME, I was furious with the ass whuppin’ that Herbert took in that game! I can’t imagine how any charger fan would be okay with that or signing up for more of that in 2022? And even going back to 2021 off season a lot more could’ve been done in 2021 including cutting ties with Bulaga and finding a viable RT. when a handful of viable RTs hit the market I was shocked the chargers didn’t make a move on or claim leno, massie, reif, or moses. I just can’t get that fugger crosby going after Justin's legs time and time again out of my head. How did you?
I’d hope you’d not apologize but at least accept it’s not okay to call your fellow charger fans cowards. What you call a ‘tiny minor concern’ affects the health of the hopes and dreams of every charger fan, justin herbert, this team is doing nothing if he’s not around and it doesn’t matter how much they fixed in other areas…
The team’s core problem was DEFENSE. DEFENSE was what made too many games close such as that Raider game, and too many winnable games losses. Inability to stop 3rd downs, inability to stop the run, and inability to stop scoring was the 2021 Charger problem, it was not the offense. The Raiders ran it down the Chargers throat in that game, that was the #1 reason for the loss. Herbert had to throw it over 60 times because of our Defense putting us in a constant hole.
RT will be better this year because they both will have improved some so the starter will by default be better, and the RG next to the starter is much better than the shit RG we played last year. If you can recall back to the first 5 games when we had a decent RG, we didnt have a huge RT problem. Every other aspect of the team will be better so instead of going to OT with last year’s roster you continue to whine about, we’ll be one+ score(s) ahead and all will be good with the much improved 2022 LAC!
You might want to close your eyes and wait for the gun to sound as there will be some ups and downs in any sport.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

Agreed. the poor defense was the major problem last year. It put us behind and in passing situations, which exposed the weak right side of the O line. Like the rest of you (rational thinkers) I'm concerned about RT this year, but from an overall team standpoint I don't recall any team making more (and better) specifically targeted improvements in a single offseason;
Pass rush (Mack / VanNoy / Rumph)
Rushing defense (DL / Mack + depth improvements)
Defensive backfield (Jackson / Callahan + Davis with his head on straight)
Oline (Zion + depth / Salyer)
Running back (Kelley / Spiller - maybe Horvath)
WR (Palmer / Guyton improvements, Carter emergence)
TE
Punter (hang time will help coverage)
Long snapper
Don't sleep on VanNoy's contributions - he's another swiss army knife type guy at the LB level
Factor in the offense in year 2 of Lombardi's system
Factor in the defense in year 2 of Staley's system
Factor in Staley with a year of experience as HC
And we didn't lose anyone of consequence from last year, so; we made major improvements all around, we're more experienced in the systems we play, our HC has gotten through his first year and has a VERY clear picture as to what he wants the team to be (clear objectives), AND we didn't take any steps backwards in terms of losing personnel.
1 negative; Right Tackle
I'll take it - no team is perfect.

(Though I'm still pulling for Salyer to up his game and win at RT)

I don't see a major issue anyway.
If RG/ RT play is the same as last year's #5 Offense, we're a lock to be in the playoffs. If RG/ RT is a skosh better, we're frigging awesome.
