This is some lively camp competition. There's a new sheriff in town.
We do not play modern football.

Here's a link to the first oficial depth chart released by the team.

Chargers Depth Chart | Los Angeles Chargers - chargers.com

Noteworthy: There are three different spots at which TWO players are listed as, essentially, co-starters.

(*) Pipkins and Norton at right tackle.

(*) Gabe Nabors and Zander Horvath at fullback

(*) Chase Daniel and Easton Stick at #2 QB.

Which leads me to this question: if there's a #1 QB, and two players listed as co-holders of the #2 QB slot... does that mean there IS no #3 QB spot, and that one of the two will therefore not make the team? (We can hope...)

I think they carry 3. Still too much uncertainty with the various viruses, and PS maybe too risky for Stick.

Interesting that McKitty is on the depth chart at FB, in addition to TE. Also Joe Reed is 3rd behind Michael Bandy in KR depth.

I've been thinking about the backup QB situation. I like Stick, but he has zero NFL experience. When Daniel is gone, I'd be more comfortable with someone like Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones who were once starters and have extensive playing experience.

              Yup.
I've singled both of those guys as preferred backups.
Even for them professionally, it might be a good move to take backup money to learn behind Herbert and have a chance to start later.
both guys are young enough to reinvent themselves.
              G-Ro knows.

I dunno. The idea of Sam Darnold backing up Justin Herbert doesn't sound very reassuring, to me.

But their "extensive playing experience" shows them to be inadequate.

I think it means they aren't clear on who is #2 yet. The preseason games will decide that for them.

Sam is just 25 and got drafted to the Jets.
he has intangibles and an average arm.
very salvageable as a number 2 with our roster

The question is - in comparison to what? There's no doubt that these guys are 'inadequate' as starters, but compared to what we currently have?? No brainer.

I never understood the Darnold love. He had really good talent around him at SC and had turnover issues there. He made a few nice throws on the run but hasn't done anything since. Intangibles just seems to mean "I like the guy." Burrow is better than Herbert because "the intangibles." What good are intangibles if they don't lead to production?
