This was a total Dean Spanos cock-up. After the 2006-7 season, Spanos initially said Marty was going to return. But in mid-February, he changed his mind and fired Marty, after all the best candidates had been hired. So he and A.J. settled on Norv. The next season Norv got the Chargers to the AFC Championship Game, after Marty failed twice to win a playoff game, and that endeared Norv to A.J. and the Spanoes. A.J. liked Norv because Norv was passive and didn't try to intrude on player personnel or other football decisions.

That was right up there with my most annoyimg moments in 4+ decades of following the Chargers. Coming off 14-2....with the best roster in Charger history...hiring a proven loser in Norv Turner. Was pretty pissed that day he was hired.

I’m impressed with him both his character and football IQ.

He is an exceptional talent. It’s pretty obvious to you isn’t it?

Love reading your posts by the way, it’s Chargers fans like you that help us all get through these disappointing times.

Would agree. WR has probably gone from down bucket list to the top.

I’m no GM but if it meant giving up a premium pick (that I covet like Gold) would do it, just like they did last year for Mack (who can tell by my sig. a huge fan of). My Target - Jets WR Elijah Moore. They say have no intentions of trading him but dangle a 2nd. Maybe?

On big deals, ownership usually signs off. Or not.

So you think that John Spanos has to sign off or not on any deal we make?

                      Emphasis on “big deals”.

Draft Capital, should be considered big deals, know it would be for me if I owned a team. How about you?

If I am the owner, I get out of the way and let the football knowledgeable people make those decisions. That is their job, not mine. If the Spani are getting in the way then they need to leave.

Of course he does. He’s Telesco’s direct boss.

Also, John started his football career in the scouting department where he eventually became the head of the department, so all the draft picks since Butler and AJ’s run have been influenced by him.

After he screwed up scouting his daddy promoted him to screw up the rest of the team from GM to coaches and all player decisions.

                          That’s where the buck stops.
