Commanders v Cowboys GOTW play audit

I did the exercise below to understand how often Kellen Moore was switching up his personnel packages with a backup QB against a divisional opponent during the 2022 season (Week 4). Also I wanted to understand what it was like to chart plays as the QC assistant does.

Findings: Out of 57 total plays, 46 were 11 personnel, meaning 3WR + 1TE. There were 29 rushing plays called. Cooper Rush's QB rating was a 122.3 Passer Rating at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Nearly all the plays had pre-snap sequencing of either the TE, WR, or RB.

    K. Allen, M. Williams, Q. Johnston, + G. Everett = 11 personnel
In Moore's playbook, they also run inside/outside zone reads in 11 personnel quite frequently.

    9 snaps in 12 personnel
    1 snap in 13 personnel
I did not total kick or punt snaps. No interest in Fassel's special teams' snaps. Also skipped every Carson Wentz snap because no interest in Commanders on either side of the ball.

TB receives ball w/ :27 left in half.

      Halftime 18-0 Cowboys

Summation: On the last TD of the quarter, Prescott threw on the run, to his left, across his body, and made an accurate throw to D. Schultz in the endzone, and who was the first to hug Prescott as he was
helped to his feet? Kellen Moore. (below) This first half is worth watching as TB's defense handled the Cowboys the first two possessions, and shut them down. Coach Moore changed tacts in third possession and the Cowboys got better and better in each subsequent drive in the 1st half.

I have yet to see a single Jet Sweep in two games I've audited. Moore doesn't attack you horizontally, it's more about presenting the defense with looks they've never seen like 'why is that offensive lineman lined up at fullback?' And it's a pass. The fourth possession alone is a school in strange looks for the defense.

        Moore is brilliant.

Their fourth possession was a 15-play drive, in the playoffs, against the defending SB champion Bucs' defense. Another thing I saw on film is that Moore's 11 personnel, shotgun, in no huddle, is nearly impossible to defend when executed at a high level and I feel the Chargers have superior skill position players at WR save CeeDee Lamb.

IMO, no one will benefit from Moore's offensive install more than Gerald Everett and Donald Parham. Tre McKitty could become a more productive player as an insert blocker in the backfield on zone reads, and as a traditional lead fullback. He'll be an asset as an inline TE from Day One.

@4:53 TE on dummy route, lines up as an insert blocker on outside zone read.

There is a great article on SI about Staley and Moore. I know the jury is out on Staley, but his draw for talented players and assistant coaches is undeniable. Moore is here almost solely due to Staley being here. I think Staley will end up being a great head coach just hope it is here and the team is patient enough to let it happen. It is rare for someone to be excellent at doing something the first time they do it. Head coaching is no different and there are lots of examples (Pete Caroll, Bill Belicheck, Mike Shanahan, and on and on)

I miss Kay Adams. This new girl is like vanilla ice cream. And she always looks like she just woke and up rushed out the door.

I'll wait a good bit before proclaiming him a genius

Just madness bringing in a defensive coach, and then an ex tight end as your OC,
                        when you have Justin Herbert.

Insanity that your head coach, and both coordinators had 1.5 years of total combined experience starting out.

Charger management has an irritating quality of being the type of trail blazers that strand the entire expedition in the middle of the desert.

Horvath will get his snaps at traditional fullback, as lead blocker in counters and sweeps, and insert blocker in zone running schemes. You could also run 13 personnel and line Horvath up in the slot. Have him run a button-hook pattern and get that big boy in space.

I was watching how Moore ran his mini-camp in Dallas last season and he was asked specifically what his plans were for Tyler Smith. Moore said he had no plans, just let things work themselves out. Tyler Smith ended up being the best starting left tackle in the 2022 draft, under the tutelage of Moore and his offensive line staff.
