What would you grade him in these areas?

    Special Teams?

    Offensive Line?

    Defense?

    Depth?

    Skill Players?

    Free agency, others?

    Free agency, own?

    Draft?

I don't see any area where I would say he gets an A.
The best I would give him is a B for skills players with Herbert, Allen, Williams, Ekeler and even Henry and Gordon. So i trust he can get me some skills players.

Special teams is a D- and Hopkins and Roberts are the only reason it isn't an F.

Offensive line is a C-. I give him credit for trying but the results have been mostly poor.

Defense is a C. They had 2 good top 10 defenses in 2017 and 2018. And what those defenses had that really worked was a great #1 CB in his prime Hayward. And edge rushers Bosa, Ingram and run stuffer Mebane on the DL. In 2017 both Bosa and Ingram had double digit sacks. In 2018 Derwin was added and the team went 12-4. Other than these 2 seasons Telesco built defenses have been avg or poor.

Depth. Have to give him a D. Typical good depth will mean better special teams and his special teams have been awful.
The RB room should always be stacked IMO, and it has been thin last couple seasons. Secondary and edge rushers being so key in modern NFL should be the area where you just keep stacking talent. You can never have enough good corners.

Free agency, others. I give him a C here. He has found a few very good starters and didn't break the bank to get them like Hayward and Linsley.

Free agency, own. I give him a C as I think a couple of players that develop into solid starters were not retained that could have been resigned and it created holes to patch up and a feeling of 1 step forward 1 step back and you are going nowhere.

Draft, I give him a C. I think his trade ups have not proven to be worth it. And his reaches have failed, which isn't surprising....there's a reason the consensus view is wow that's a reach, he was a 5-7 udfa player, but Telesco spent the 3rd Rd pick. Drafting the player 2 rds higher than consensus rank.

    Telesco overall cumulative grade: C
The man is an average GM and the Chargers have also been average during his tenure.

You want really change in the product, you need to buy better ingredients. None of your cooks can elevate some of the garbage you have been giving them. Yet some of your cooks show #1 dishes when cooking at other restaurants with better ingredients. So we know they can cook really well.
What we haven't seen is the GM shopping usually brings back the best cuts of meat. There have been some very tough and gamey groceries that the cooks are struggling to spice up into a winner.

And I keep going back to the restaurant thinking maybe today the special will be fantastic. And once in a blue moon it is. But normally it's just ok at best. It will feed you, but you won't recommend it to anyone that loves food.

With the cap space the team has and even some draft capital, albeit, most of the additional are 7th round comp picks - has Telesco shown a damn thing over time that shows he has it. Now if you can bring in a draft class in 2022 like 21 with two starters from Day 1, and two guys in Palmer and McKitty who have gotten better and a Special teamer like Niemann and tbd on a couple others - sure. Plus his FA class this year, save really Cook, was pretty good.

If Telesco is able to recreate that kind of offseason in 2022 - I think he is finally building something.

Special teams is where depth of talent can be measured.

Chargers ST ranking near or at bottom for the past several years shows the inability of Telesco to build a competitive roster.

Every team we have played recently has had as many or more players out with Covid, so that’s no excuse.

And picks like Herbert, Slater, and Bosa were no brainers where Chargers were picking, so they don’t count.

Perhaps Staley will have an influence and turn draft and FA signings around for the better. That’s the only thing I can pin hopes on.

TT went heavy FA/draft last year to fix a very bad OL.

TT has to go heavy FA/draft this year to fix a very bad DL.

What kind of general manager let’s both of his lines go to shit at the same time?
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
        Let’s win one for Mack.

Telesco has been very consistent - the team has had had subpar OLines and Special teams with above average QB play for much of his tenure.

There are so many examples where he has not done a good job. I don't know what kind of GM the Spanii would want - they probably are content with Tommy Boy Polian. But they should be ready to move on from him.

Hoping Staley gets to pick what players he wants this draft. Yeah be key with that cap space to land some really good players hopefully because our depth and drop off from players is like a canadian football team.

Sure they count, some are just easier to make like Bosa when we are picking 3rd and Miami passed on Herbert.
Instead of Slater he could of picked Alijah Vera-Tuckr which some here wanted him to do or Zavon Collins like somebody wanted him to do. So it all counts.

The Herbert pick was an easy one because the Chargers were going to take whoever dropped to them between Herbert or Tua. If Tua was the one that dropped to the Chargers then Telesco likely would’ve been canned last off season itself.
Tom Telesco’s Results in 9 years as Chargers GM:

                - 69-74 record
                - 0 division titles in 9 yrs as GM
                - Worst record among all active GMs with same tenure
                - 6th worst winning percentage among all active GMs overall
                - 2 playoff wins despite elite QB all 9 yrs
                - Team still has the same weaknesses (Oline and run defense) that it had when hired as GM in 2013
                - Consistently puts together horrible depth, expects starters to never miss games

I think we can all look at s******** Telesco made and said - sure he made a good pick here or there

But to me its two things, make it three
                  1) overall record is well under .500 in his 9th year
                  2) ZERO division titles
                  3) KC still dominating the division and the Chargers are closer to the Raiders and Broncos than the Chiefs.

Teams reflect their leadership and this team is not tough.

DEpth has been an issue for the Telesco era. Special teams are below average and if players get hurt - players that come in and play - show there is a drop off. So when I see most of the DB group is injured - I am like "well its a big deal but really, whats the drop-off from Campbell and Harris to the next guy - its not like Jalen Ramsey to his replacement"

Telesco can put together a starting 22 that seems pretty competitive but the middle and back of the roster - been a failure. I have zero idea why he would get another year - but he will because he "drafted Justin Herbert". Andy Reid and the rest of the division licking their chops. Hell the Broncos have a better roster than the Chargers save the QB.

Telesco isn't going anywhere; getting angry is futile. Bosa, James, Herbert and Slater are in the Pro Bowl. That's four of TT's past six first round picks, three of his last four, his last two. Slater made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. I'm not defending TT, just stating reality. He is going to get a raise and an extension and and sit back fat and happy with a $100 cigar and watch the playoffs while youse all complain. It's better to accept the things you can't change and hope that TT can do better in the future filling out the roster with better depth.
