I don't think Rivers is the focal point. Just look at this decade & the offensive lines: when good, the Chargers have had (some) success (2010, 2013, 2017, 2018); when bad, they suck (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019).

It has been a fairly reliable indicator of the team's success.

The Oline pretty much has dictated this teams performances this decade

Yep. TT assumed Okung would be fine, even though he had major surgery in the off-season. WRONG.
TT apparently assumed Tevi would improve in pass pro. WRONG.
TT apparently assumed Scott would be a capable backup. WRONG.

Looks like TT has been wrong quite a bit lately...

Idk. He’s terrible at drafting, but good at FA.

Okung was ready to play after his surgery and a pulmonary embolism is not something any one on any team could have foreseen. Blaming TT for that is totally misguided.

              Agree on Tevi.

Having Scott and Pipkins as backups was a gamble and it failed, but due to the timing of Okung's injury, it's not like there was anyone good we could have signed.

They could have done something after Okung's embolism. Get Donald Penn ( who WAS signed after Trent Williams held out) Or be bold and make a trade like HOU did and get Laremy Tunsil

There were other options. Going w Trent Scott seems to be the most senseless of all and now they can see they lost a season due to their bad decisions.

It was another one of topcat's by now all too familiar shitposts, start to finish.

The narrative is revised, with perfect 20-20 hindsight.

Now, I would not decribe it as a gamble to rely on Scott and Tevi...no other realistic good options existed.

The Chargers had only Jonah Williams and Andre Dillard as their early targets, due to scheme fit.

Take a look at SF...what is going on there ? ...dynamic playcalling from Kyle Shanahan.

He did the same thing in ATL. The Falcons invested heavily in Oline after Kyle left, and failed.

SF waived high pick Joshua Garnett (much more of a true bust than Lamp or Feeney.) They lost both starting OTs, replaced them with scrubs, and still have succeeded.

Let's see how this all plays out now.

TT/Ed McGuire might have been very prescient.
We do not play modern football.

Trent Scott was nowhere close to being ready. They were praying the duct tape would hold all though they saw Bosa/Ingram destroy him in practice all day/every day.

Yep...with Tevi backed up by Scott, it's like the Titanic backed up by the Lusitania...

Any strong opinions on Troy Aikman wanting in as a front office guy somewhere?
I think Spanos would have to take a minute to consider
given our unique circumstance of needing to win over a fanbase while surviving the post rivers era.
without saying too much (that’s a first) I think troy would be a good GM for both football and business ops
we need to buy a name to sell to new fans if we’re going to aspire to have less than 16 toad games a year.

Sure. As long as he promises not to hire his buddy Norv
