Special teams are no longer "speshul".
Kicking FG now inspires confidence instead of dread.
OC playcalling was rigid, and after 1 pre season game ive seen fluidity
Depth: Injuries exposed our backups as subpar. This season the backups could start elsewhere

Sure Coach Staley has made mistakes, he is human. I for one am very happy with whats been fixed already and hope he continues coaching Chargers for many seasons.
trying to be fair...Staley has made some in game mistakes and he really needs his defense to finally produce on the field...but what I do give him credit for...in the big picture...is that he is changing the culture ...you can feel there is something building here.

Fire Staley promote the new OC. How much can a guy change. And why would it be necessary after the hire? He is still the same guy underneath with all his new age cliches. But its a new season. Let's see if he has changed. I basically mean the 4th down calls.

        W-L. Period.
        2021, 9-8
        2022, 10- 7 and a playoff L
2023 make the playoffs and win at least 1, he stays
2023 We win the Super Bowl, Staley gets a bonus and a contract extension.

          I disagree about Wins / Losses as an absolute, although agree that it should be a primary factor. HOW you lose is also a contributing factor . . . . . . . . . . . . . continuing to improve is a contributing factor . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Hypothetical 2023 season; The defense continues to suck (similar to last year), but we win because the offense bails us out. Under these circumstances, even if we make the playoffs, is Staley worth keeping???

W-L. It's Staley's team. If you think his Chargers will win in the playoffs without defense, think again.

Do you want to take a shot at answering my hypothetical question?

I do. He stays, he is responsible for all units on the team, the entire team.

So - if the defense sucks (again), but Moore's offense saves the day - you still want Staley as the head coach for 2024? Even though he was hired based on his expertise as a defensive coach?

Absolutely. He was hired to be HC. He is the HC. If the team wins, the HC wins. What part of that do you not respect? You don’t think he’s the HC?

Much too simplistic. If I install a monkey as CEO of my fortune 500 company and the company continues to make money because the staffers are excellent does that mean the monkey's a good CEO? Or is the monkey just fortunate to have an excellent support staff?

I expect more from Staley as a defensive specialist . . . . . . . . . . . . . that was his strong suit and the reason he got hired. If Moore / Herbert save his ass because the offense is otherworldly does that make Staley a good coach? Or is he just fortunate to have a great OC, QB and offense?

I'm on the record as willing to give him another chance to field a respectable defense - hopefully he'll come through in 23. As Jim points out - elite offensive prowess is difficult to sustain. Balance is necessary to win consistently.

If the monkey hires all the staff you think are so excellent, he’s not a monkey at all. That is what good organizational leaders do and bad leaders don’t do. Your technical expectations are not relevant to the real world in which Staley is the HEAD COACH of the LA Chargers. He will be judged as the HEAD COACH. Not sure why you don’t understand reality.

I’m sure he appreciates you’re giving him one more chance. Lol.

There is more to being the HC than just calling defensive plays.
