I forgot....Henning was a failed HC in Atlanta or somewhere prior to Chargers, wasn't he? His teams remind me of Staleys. Always almost good enough to win but don't win.

And I understand its more than just the HC - includes the GM, VP etc - but for the Chargers - the data is the data.
And truly - if I were going with a first time HC - I would look more like the Arians Zimmer type - one with a lot of football experience in the NFL but never got the call as a head coach.
Bieniemy seems to be improving the game of Sam Howell

Bisaccia with his limited time with the Raiders
Don't look now but Sam Howell leads the NFL in passing yards!

A bit misleading as he has played 10 games and the others near the top of the list have only played 9 games. If you take average passing yards per game, he is still very good at #5 in the league.

I look at it that Bieniemy might actually be coaching him and the offense to improve. Plus like other coaches, he has had peaks and valleys in his career. Because of the Chargers history hiring coaches, I am leery of coaches that have just had success. I think a kick or two in the g'nads might make coaches better over a long term.
Bruce Arians won a super Bowl with Brady in Tampa Bay, he'd be a good replacement for Staley.
I get at the time Telesco was just hired
I also understand that Ron Wolf was part of the search committee
but why Telesco wasn't banging the drum big time for Arians - and I think a lot of it was age - 40ish HC with the 40ish GM building a long term foundation
but Arians would have built a better staff, Rivers would have played better
That was a big miss by the Ron Wolf committee and Telesco thinking Arians was "too old"

2021 27.0
2022 22.6
2023 23.9 (It was 21.8 before Lions game)
They need to eliminate a drive per game.
Make the opponent punt or force a turnover.
People are ready to reset the whole program. I am not.
Special Teams is so much better.
If the Moore offense arrived vs Lions, that is going to be very good.
Defense needs to do it's part. But I think it's trending the right direction (Pts allowed going down) even if it looked awful last week and has never been consistently great.
To me it's 1 opponent drive per game on avg.
Make the opponent punt/turnover.
Then it will be 19pts allowed per game.
And now it's a top 10 in points allowed unit.
Brandon has to get that out of his unit. Consistently.
He knows it. I'm rooting for him and the players on defense to figure that out. And when they do everyone will over react to that. And all it will be is playing a little better on 1 or 2 downs to eliminate 1 drive per game into a punt/turnover.
Until he pushes the right buttons to get them into top 10, the talk will continue. And the seat will heat up.
It’ll be tough for the Chargers to fire Staley, even tho they will. That’s because they’re just as culpable, seeing as how they meddle. Staley will, of course, be asked to fall on his sword to shield them.
