Absolutely not. Oh, no, no, no, no. We knew if sent the letter, 100
    percent we're out the player."

It was AJ that caused Gates to miss game 1 by setting in process the NFL roster exempt list designation that couldn't be reversed. There wasn't a rule that Gates had to be in camp by a certain date that AJ couldn't reverse. He made Gates subject to the roster exempt rule by sending the letter.

And yes a HOF TE needs an experienced agent and even tho AJ was an a-hole Gates, Rivers and LT were paid at the top of the market without much haggling. Those deals all went smoothly. Difference between an a-hole and idiot.
WTF are you arguing about? That AJ was an A-Hole for doing this? Because I was saying that the reason Gates missed the first game was because of his agent. And while AJ may have seemed spiteful, it was the right move. Did you forget that the letter was sent a week before and Gates had time to get a plane? Not the day before. More than a week before.

The team sent Colona a letter more than a week ago ordering
Gates to be in camp and sign a contract by Saturday, or be put on
the Roster Exempt List once he does sign, triggering a three-game
    suspension.

Can I ask why are we rehashing the Gates thing? I want to know about DJ.

That is what we’re arguing about. I’m saying AJ sent a letter he didn’t have to send that lead to Gates missing game 1. You’re saying it’s the agent fault Gates didn’t report on time. But that wouldn’t have mattered if AN didn’t send the letter in the first place. The letter is what invoked NFL rules

This is past history, and I think you made your point. Whats important is that Derwin not miss time to be in playing shape, regardless of his contract situation. This does have a small chance of blowing up, not for just Derwin, but can hurt Herbert's situation in the next big contract negotiation.

James' injury history is something to worry about. If he can stay on the field and overcome his injury prone ways like KA did that would be excellent.

It will get done. He is too valuable to our D. He knows and the team knows it. He is everything the team is looking for and he will be paid market value.

Can’t worry about his injury a couple years ago while making the deal now. Thats the way to see your all-pro players go and playfor another team. Pay him, he’s top tier. Get it done and play some ball.

Derwin's injury history does matter, but that is where how the negotiations of the structure is important.

We can't just blindly throw money at him, yet you have to acknowledge that Derwin is a key piece to a D that needs an "adjustor", to be moved around like a chess piece.

Derwin’s agent: “it’s a different movie without Derwin” right Brandon?

Looks like he wants to be highest paid safety topping Minkas deal at 18.25 million a year and 73M over 4 years
