Still, if you have the talent we have at wideout, HH and RB, use them! This loss is on a combination of playcalling and Rivers. But it's mostly on Rivers. We now drop to 4-6, and playoff hopes are pretty much dead, especially they way we played today. Might as well bench Rivers and see what we've got with Tyrod and Stick. Give them each a start and see what they can do. Maybe we DON'T need to draft a QB if one of them produces. But, this is mindless, watching this awful play week after just about every week.
Cat.... agree w/the Oline as a virtual/untimely sieve, and would challenge your assertation that we have anything much more than avg talent @wideout ?? 'specially when it comes to depth.

the O has gotten an uptick from the return of Hunter, but wondering why we don't use the 'backs in the flats more, and why not our TE and Keenan underneath more ??

and who is our "move the chains" guy for Phil ?? and Tyrod and 'specially Stick, would be a(n absolute) disaster as things stand atm.

speaking for myself, can't say unequivocally that Phil might just not being pulling the silk purse from out behind the sow's ear, and that we might not know what we've got 'til he's gone ??

don't think our playcalling w/Whiz and now w/Stitch is a plus for Phil, and re: the draft.... don't think we're under the gun to draft a signal caller, and would prefer a(nother) developmental draft pick @QB.

Didn't say that. But to think Stick is the next franchise QB is ridiculous and they will most likely draft another QB early in the draft.

wow.... reading this thread gives me cause for pause.... (really ?)

could Phil really abort ship and call it a career a year early ?? would team Tommy John really move on from not only AL but Gus as well, without their usual grace period/lame duck year ??

do people here really believe that this isn't on team Tommy John ?? ….(who will of course be here next year regardless)

this year has been a bit odd, as personally speaking was a bit surprised by the (SB) expectations of this board on the whole, and then things went boomerang and we got snakebite by the likes of MG's holdout, Derwin's adieu and Henry's redux.... there was also the TB virtual no show, and now the Whiz w/his involuntary exit left.

again personally speaking was not overly enamored w/the vet resignings, the allocation of FA $$ to backup QB, and the lack of a hedge @LT and the OC.

am sure there are many other factors that I don't have off the top of my head, and.... my word, would be a shame if that's all she wrote for Phil.... he's (still) a darn fine QB, and....

c'mon.... these guys are the best in the biz.... they barely bat an eye w/audibles.

Rivers stepped up and took it upon himself for the loss. His deep throws this season could have used a couple more seconds not and getting hurried. He's not a magician and he's not 7 years younger. Years past, he had an offensive line. Put any current "leet" QB in his position and they would now be considered "un-leet."

Listen...God bless his heart, Rivers is an emotional player. He always has been. He isn't, nor ever has been, an "Iceman" type QB. He does have a short memory, and is brave...and these two traits make him seem unflappable...but no. It just means he retains his confidence and poise going forward, but when he is rattled and under too much pressure...and this happens to Brady and Rodgers too, folks...he starts playing desperate and badly.

What kills me is how people on here believe we can just elect to draft a new QB next year to replace him, and the problem will be solved. LOL...

First...who says we are even going to be in position to draft this new savior? Good luck with that. We don't want to be one of those teams that help turn a fourth round talent into a top 15 pick...just cuz we decide it's time to draft a QB.

Second...you can't seriously believe they are going to improve this teams performance? Playing behind this line? Oh thats right...now we want a mobile QB..which is great...but if they are mobile all the time, behind this line...they will get injured before they ever get a chance to play well. I mean, for fucks sake...when Okung left the game, our line became a group of nobodies...seriously. Our left tackle played for Sioux Fucking Falls last year...he was never meant to start this year.

Look...the season may well be over. But Rivers has got plenty of good ball left...if we can get him a line, and field a half way healthy team around him. It's tough, I know...we have been patient long enough...but it looks like it will have to be a little longer.

We play the year out, develop some of these youngins....see what we got. Oline big priority this offseason. Use free agency and the draft to build it. Come back next year more talented and healthy, we will be poised for a big bounce back season.

And even if you are still sold on ditching Rivers and getting a new young QB...don't you want them to start their career behind a good oline....so they have a fighting chance?

Give Rivers an oline and a couple more years...we will win a lot of games, and when the new guy is finally selected, we will have a developed and seasoned oline for him to start off his career behind.

No, Rivers need to watch Tom Brady videos passing to Grok and Edleman.

Very poor day for the O. Everyone deserves blame. Terrible line play, bad QB play and Receivers going through their routes like it was a walk through practice. The only thing that went well was the running game for the first half, then the team crapped their collective pants with that as well in the second half.
No doubt, it was a team failure.

Rivers is not a mobile QB

A mobile QB does not make a O-Line better. Can cover up the O-line flaws for only so long

Andrew Luck is an example of a good mobile QB who had bad O-lines.

His team had some success but now he is retired from injuries (due to bad O-lines) after only playing 6 full seasons.

Colts did get the O-line straighten out but now it is too late for Andrew Luck.

I think mobile QBs do not last as long without good O-line and do not make the O-line any better in the long run.

Rivers has a few years of playoff like skills left with a good quality O-line like the Brady led Patriots have enjoyed for years.

Rivers had a great career but age has caught up with him. When the game is on the line Rivers will throw a pick. He locks on to his receivers now and misses too many guys open down field. Chargers will be better served with a new QB and New Head Coach.

Game on the line Rivers looked pretty good here. I would also worry about Reid and your own coaching problems. Dude is Marty 2.0 great in the regular season and shits his pants in the play offs.

Oh and wait for another year or two when Myhommie is not on his rookie deal and you have to cut half your team to sign him. Good luck with that.

Agree, we can look at still pics of every team and find open recievers they didn't throw to. When you are under pressure, you don't have time to look at 4 progressions. Maxx Crosby bad 7 pressures alone against Scott.

However,on that last drive, be made some bad decisions when all we needed was yards to get in FG range with 3 TO's. I was just stunned.

Luck retired because of injuries being a mobile QB at 29. That's what happens to mobile QBs.
Lamar Jackson has his coming as did Vick and every mobile QB.
Brissett being mobile is now hurt with a sprained MCL.
